In 2012, Steve Isaacs was invited to contribute a chapter on Compensation Philosophy and Strategy to the forthcoming 15th edition of the AIA Architect's Handbook of Professional Practice. This book is the primary guide for architects on how to establish their architecture firm and run it from setting design standards to solving HR problems to marketing their services.
For this project Steve asked me to create an outline we could work from, invite one of his colleagues to contribute statistics and charts tothe project, interview several senior level HR executives to gain their perspective, and write the chapter.
Using the rather complex Wiley standardized document formatting system, we managed to combine my research with Steve's concepts and his co-author's statistics to form a coherent – and we hope – useful and practical guideline.
